Online gambling syndicate seized in Malaysia

In Selangor, Malaysia, an online gambling syndicate has been shut down, allegedly run by a Chinese man with eight accomplices and three employees.

The China Press reports officers from the Bukit Aman Anti-Vice, Gambling and Secret Societies Division raided the man’s home after two weeks of surveillance, arresting nine Chinese nationals aged between 20 and 40.

Investigations found the syndicate would manipulate customers in order to increase profits by placing syndicate members in online games, potentially attracting other players.

Further arrests were made, involving an Indonesian man and two Chinese women, believed to be part of the syndicate.

All of the nine arrestees were taken to South Klang District Police Headquarters and investigations remain ongoing.
