ESL and DreamHack Sign Broadcasting Deal With Denmark-Based TV 2

  • MTG esports organizers ESL and DreamHack have signed a broadcast deal with TV 2.
  • The Denmark-based network will have rights to ESL and DreamHack Counter-Strike: Global Offensive events.
  • Earlier this year, TV 2 began broadcasting CS:GO events as a part of a deal with the BLAST Pro Series.

Modern Times Group’s Database-Link-e1521645463907 esports tournament organizers ESL Database-Link-e1521645463907 and DreamHack Database-Link-e1521645463907 have signed a media rights deal with Denmark-based network TV 2 to broadcast Counter-Strike:Global Offensive Database-Link-e1521645463907 tournaments in 2019.

As a part of the deal, TV 2 ZULU and on-demand service TV 2 PLAY will show live coverage of ESL and DreamHack events including the IEM Katowice Major taking play in Poland at the end of February into March. The number of events that will be broadcasted was not disclosed, but a release stated that more than 700 hours of content will be provided across TV 2’s platforms.

Earlier this year, TV 2 announced a deal to broadcast four of RFRSH Entertainment’s Database-Link-e1521645463907 BLAST Pro Series events for CS:GO, and according to a release, the network has seen notable viewership growth among people in the 15-40 age demographic during the three events its aired so far.

“Esports has the potential to become for TV 2 ZULU what Tour de France has been for TV 2—a premium on air event that audiences love and anticipate,” Frederik Lauesen, TV 2 head of sport said. “Just as with live sports, TV 2 will cover esports tournaments according to the highest standards and will provide a closer look behind the scenes at these huge international events.”

MTG’s recent broadcasting rights activity isn’t limited to CS:GO. In October, DreamHack signed on with Discovery Networks Denmark and Danish Superliga to create a national FIFA esports league that began playing in November.
