Telcom Telia to Sponsor Swedish Team for IeSF Esports World Championship 2018

  • Nordic telcom Telia will sponsor Sweden’s national team in its efforts to qualify for the IeSF Esports World Championship.
  • This initiative will include a partnership with Sweden’s IeSF-member organization, SESF.
  • The Esports World Championship is an annual tournament featuring member nations of the IeSF competing across three esports titles.

Nordic telecommunications company Telia has committed to supporting esports in Sweden’s campaign for the International e-Sports Federation’s Database-Link-e1521645463907 (IeSF) 10th Esports World Championship in Kaohsiung, Taiwan this November. The telcom will sponsor the Swedish national esports team, as well as Sweden’s IeSF-affiliated esports organization, SESF.

Anders Tillander, head of consumer business at Telia said:

“As a leading player in digitalization it is natural for us to be part of the development in esports. After this summer’s Swedish success in the World Cup in football, it also feels a bit special to sponsor the Swedish national team in esports. Esports popularity is increasing, which makes players’ growing needs relevant to us in the development of new services and products. This partnership is therefore a good first step.”

The Esports World Championship is organized each year by the IeSF, wherein member nations compete to earn points across three games. In 2017, 28 member nations competed in Busan, Korea, with the home team claiming victory. This year’s event in Kaohsiung will feature teams competing in Counter-Strike: Global OffensiveDatabase-Link-e1521645463907, League of Legends Database-Link-e1521645463907, and TEKKEN 7.
