German Soccer Club VfL Wolfsburg Names Vodafone as Main Esports Partner

German soccer club VfL Wolfsburg has announced that telecommunications company Vodafone will be the main sponsor for its esports team.

VfL Wolfsburg was the first German Bundesliga teams to enter esports in 2015. The esports team, which competes in FIFA Database-Link-e1521645463907, is also sponsored by CosmosDirekt, effect Energy Drink, Turtle Beach, and UPS Germany. The team also wears the logos for Volkswagen and Nike on their jerseys, which are sponsors of the soccer club.

VfL managing director Dr. Tim Schumacher said:

Vodafone Germany has been a sponsor of esports team organization mousesports Database-Link-e1521645463907 since May 2017, and this year, Vodafone acquired a title sponsorship with Giants Gaming, rebranding the team to the Vodafone Giants—the telecom’s deal with the Spanish esports organization is valued at a reported $1.22M per year.

After an initial partnership for the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship Katowice, esports tournament company ESL Database-Link-e1521645463907 announced that Vodafone had been named as a “premium partner” for all IEM, ESL One, and ESL Pro League events this year. The ESL partnership also includes an initiative to promote female participation in esports.
