Overwatch League Stage 4 Viewership Finds Consistency in Third Week, but Stays Low

  • New peak viewership for stage reached at 113K, during last Sunday’s match between New York Excelsior and Los Angeles Valiant.
  • Total hours watched increased almost 10% from the week before, from 2.5M to 2.7M.
  • No significant drop in average viewership, though it is still lower than in the third week of Stage 2 and 3.

OWL AVG CCV Stage 4 Week 3

In its most recent week, the Overwatch League Database-Link-e1521645463907 (OWL) Stage 4 has been able to maintain a consistent level of viewership. Although the average concurrent viewership (AVG CCV) on Twitch (totaled across all three language broadcasts) remains lower at this point than previous stages, all four days have stayed well above 90K.

As is the recurring trend of this stage, certain matches are able to pull in considerably more viewership than others. While the match between the Philadelphia Fusion Database-Link-e1521645463907 and Los Angeles Gladiators Database-Link-e1521645463907 only had a rough AVG CCV of 88K (the lowest of the week), the match preceding it between the San Francisco Shock Database-Link-e1521645463907 and Dallas Fuel Database-Link-e1521645463907 earned 108K.

OWL Total Hours Watched Stage 4 Week 3

When it comes to total hours watched, this is where Stage 4 is seeing some growth. At 2.7M for the week—10% higher than the previous week—with Day accruing the highest total hours watched of the Stage so far at 719K, which is over 50K higher than the Stage opening.

In all three previous stages, the total hours watched dropped considerably at the start of their respective Week 4 matches. It’ll be interesting to see if Stage 4’s consistent viewership is able to carry it across this point, especially as we see more matches with postseason implications in the run up to the postseason. For example, with two consecutive victories, the Seoul Dynasty Database-Link-e1521645463907 are once again in the running for a playoffs spot, as the Los Angeles Gladiators also fights to keep its place.

OWL Max CCV Stage 4 Week 3

The highest maximum concurrent viewership for Stage 3, Week 4 occured during the match between New York Excelsior Database-Link-e1521645463907 and Los Angeles Valiant Database-Link-e1521645463907. These are the current top-ranked teams in the entire season thus far, with NYXL’s loss to the Valiant last week being just the team’s fourth overall. At 133K, the conclusion of this match—which ended with a 3-2 tiebreaker—shows that the right combination of high performing teams and a close outcome can still inspire a surge in the OWL audience.
