Scientific Games inks tech deal with German lottery for new gaming system

Scientific Games has finalised a new deal with its long-time lottery partner, Lotto Hessen, for its Symphony gaming systems technology.

The agreement will see the German lotto operator become the third in the country to adopt the provider’s Symphony software, following its sister states Bremen and Baden-Württemberg in transitioning to the latest generation system.

Billed as Europe’s largest lottery tech provider, Scientific Games will oversee the upgrade from its facility in Vienna, as Lotto Hessen phases out the older Aegis system and replaces it with the newer Symphony.

This upgraded software will purportedly support new game entertainment and distribution channels, with a secure, open interface that better integrates third-party solutions and content.

“This is an important new era for Lotto Hessen, with new business opportunities on a road paved by regulatory options from 2021 onwards,” said Dr Heinz-Georg Sundermann, the MD of Lotto Hessen.

“Thanks to Scientific Games’ agile, modular system design, we will be able to consolidate our wide spectrum of games and services and offer them to our players in a streamlined platform.

“This new agreement with Scientific Games enhances our strategic partnership, with the goal to strengthen Lotto Hessen’s leading market position and enable future growth.”

In the first phase of the overhaul, the provider’s Open Gaming System (OGS) will connect to Lotto Hessen’s internet framework, giving players throughout Germany access to an online gaming experience directly via the lottery’s website.

Commenting on this development, Pat McHugh, the Group Chief Executive for Lottery at Scientific Games, said: “We thank LOTTO Hessen for their continued trust in our systems technology leadership with our Symphony and OGS systems.

“We will continue to provide the best products that drive the most profits for our lottery customers, their retailers and players with technology that securely integrates all game entertainment product lines and offers operational efficiencies.”

Lotto Hessen is the fifth largest of Germany’s state lotteries, with Scientific Games serving all 16.
